About Us
“The success of Pi Kappa Phi can be attributed to two things. From the beginning we had the right principles. But in that regard, we were no different from other organizations which start bravely but fall. Yes, in 1904 we sparked the idea, but it is to those men who came after us that we owe our wonderful Pi Kappa Phi . . . we have given you the past as we know it. The future we leave with you.”
-Founder L. Harry Mixson
A Man of Pi Kappa Phi
The first lesson of a new Pi Kapp is to learn the five core values outlined in the acronym CLASS. (Character, Leadership, Academics, Service, Sportsmanship)
Next, our Superior Associate Member Education Program teaches our new members the importance of good study habits and time management skills in academic achievement. Chapter activities come hand-in-hand with campus involvement, and community service. Once completed, Associate Member Education gives way to Continued Member Education where members learn important life skills such as etiquette, sportsmanlike behavior, healthy living habits, and gentlemanly conduct. Above all however, our chapter seeks not just the betterment of our own members, but our entire campus community.
We are men of CLASS, devoted to the dream of one selfless man - A dream of a fraternity that stands for something more, one that finally dispels the fraternity stereotype. A fraternity that not just knows its values, but lives by them as well.
We have seen this dream realized in Pi Kappa Phi, a fraternity styled in the traditions of southern gentlemen of old and dedicated to the revival of American chivalry.
Join us on our lifelong journey of brotherhood.

National PKP History
Pi Kappa Phi is a national social fraternity that was founded in the spirit of “Nu Phi,” meaning non-fraternity, by friends Andrew Alexander Kroeg, Jr., Simon Fogarty, Jr., and L. Harry Mixson at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. Nu Phi was created to oppose an unscrupulous fraternity slate in officer elections for the Chrestomathics, the student governing body at the College of Charleston. When the Nu Phi ticket lost the elections, Kroeg, in his determination to see his friends given the opportunity to influence the campus like the fraternity men, decided that the only recourse was to start a new full-fledged fraternity of upright men. The three founders and four other close associates, A. Pelzer Wagener, Thomas F. Mosimann, Theodore Barnwell Kelly, and James Fogarty (Simon’s younger brother) gathered together on December 10th, 1904 at the home of founder Simon Fogarty, Jr. to found Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.
Today, Pi Kappa Phi has over 122 active chapters with more than 95,000 initiated brothers living and leading in nearly every state of the United States. It is the only fraternity with its own charitable organization, Push America, which raises awareness and funds for people with disabilities and provides volunteerism opportunities for members of the fraternity.
